I think it dies end up on a different subnet which means smb browsing is not going to work out of the box. In vmware there are two or more networking options. In one of them you end up like we saw qemu last night - the qemu virtual machine is on a different subnet to your "real" lan. The other option results in the virtual machine being on the same subnet but with a different IP address.
