I have to confess to a similar tale On my ThinkPad R40 the USB and Ethernet ports are round the back of the machine and mounted about 4mm apart. A USB plug fits just snugly into the hole of RJ45 socket. Just once, it took me somewhat more than just a few seconds to work out why the USB device was not working. -- CS
