I run my ipod mini off Linux no problem. You need to download an iTunes
equivalent - gtkpod or gnupod are ok but have drawbacks ( podcasting
mainly ). However, the ipod does seem to lock up when I'm out running (
well, waddling really ), and only removal of the battery will reset it.

Quick tip from experience: your system may not reboot if the ipod is
plugged in!
