I knew DMA was on be default and was about to say so when I checked with
hdparm again and found it had been turned off.

Looking at syslog:

Nov 20 22:28:43 firefly kernel: hdc: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Nov 20 22:28:43 firefly kernel: hdc: drive_cmd: error=0x04
{ AbortedCommand }
Nov 20 23:32:20 firefly kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Nov 20 23:32:20 firefly kernel: hdc: DMA disabled
Nov 20 23:32:20 firefly kernel: hdc: ATAPI reset complete

It seems that dma is being turned off and dvd drive is being reset
during the burn.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
