Another note of caution: raw processing power is not everything, as often fast machines can be caught out by slow IO. I feel this acutely as most of my documents at Uni lie on a network server, so the speed of many tasks is a lot slower 2.8GHz P4 than my little old 800MHz Athlon at home! (Actually, things are a lot slower at Uni recently the network file-server crashed last week. The restore has taken seven days, and counting!
