For what it's worth, Piper Cole, one of the Sun honchos, pointed out that
Microsot's Office XML 12 format was still vapourware at the moment, while ODF
had been shipping for more than one application and was thus well-tested and
useable.

"While Microsoft has promised to eventually submit Office 12 to a standards
body, the Commonwealth must act on existing open standards to best serve its
future needs for document exchange. Just as an agency would not purchase a
product before its actual availability, so too would it be a mistake to rely on
a single vendor’s promise to submit a new product to a standards body at some
point in the future. The Commonwealth owes no less to its taxpaying citizens."

If it comes to that, I noticed just yesterday how badly Microsoft misses with
its names - well, as we know, they had MS WinCE; which in conjuncion with MS
WinME and MS WinNT begot their most solid OS, MS Windows CE-ME-NT ... now, in an
effort to rebrand their premier OS, they are releasing MS Windows Vista beta.
If you pronounce "beta" with 'e' the same vowel as in "weight", and you say it
fast, it sounds rather crude.

Health Warning: Don't attempt to think it while drinking coffee! ;)
