If it doesn't work, then that's as good as it gets with free Linux. The good news is that the R200 is fully supported by TurboPrint, turboprint.de. Well worth the money. Otherwise, you can only hope that support improves in the future. The gimpprint in SUSE 10.0 is the same as in 9.3.
