Hi, I have a redhat 9 box here that I want to automatically log root in, and start in run level 5.
some googling revealed: gdmsetup will (in theory) do this. In practice, gdmsetup will do this for any user other than root. many helpful people said, a)it is a security risk, b)you should not be doing this. Well, I have considered the implications, and usage pattern of that computer. I can assure you, it is ok. Seriously. It is ok. There are no security issues for that particular computer. It is an older computer, so does not have the cpu to run suse 10 etc. Please do not go down the tangent of "you need a better OS". Any suggestions on enabling root to auto login to X? (Yes, one can hack the X startup scripts. this does work, but I am hoping for a more elegant solution) Derek. -- Derek Smithies Ph.D. Any fool can write code that IndraNet Technologies Ltd. a computer can understand.
