All the open source decoders go back to the same source which someone
made up after reverse-engineering in the early 90s. As I said, at the
lower resolutions there were no issues, but at the top resolutions
additional steps were needed to increase detail. You wouldn't
necessarily be able to see it unless you knew what to look for. Unless
you can guarantee(!) that that gimp result is as good the secret Kodak
specs describe, I might want something better. Of course if you save
your scans in jpeg, you wouldn't be any worse off with pcd... but why
support proprietory if one doesn't have to?

The other negative is that the typical pcd file (and the prices I gave)
only have 6MP, which is probably less than what you're looking for.
