geexbox.org or eMovix eMovix is built into k3b, its one of the "new project" entries in (I think) the file menu. You then drag and drop movie files into the project and It will create a bootable cd or dvd that will play whatever files u drag and drop on it. geexbox has a system to rebuild the iso of their 6MB (yes six megabyte) iso bootable media player image. The primary purpose is so that you can slip in other codecs, drivers etc if you need them. When you rebuild you can put any files you want in a certain directory and they will be placed in the iso image and played on bootup. geexbox produce their GUI iso rebuilder for linux, windows and OS X. geexbox also gives you access to uPnP A/V servers on your LAN. uPnP is Universal Plug and Play. The A/V portion of the standard enables uPnP aware devices to share music, pictures and video files over a network. Many consumer type media players (litle set tops that plug into your TV or stereo, or both) are uPnP aware. It is all very cool, but again uPnP is not unique to linux. Back On topic, what is an application that has a real WOW factor on a demo day? I am not sure that it is enough to say "Look at linux, it will do the same things as your windows machine" - people want a reason to go through the (greater or lesser) degree of pain involved in switching. > > Of course there are many very cool apps which started off in the Unix / > Linux world and have since been 'ported over to the other side. > > -- > CS -- Nick Rout <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
