ATI are pretty good at providing drivers. To my right is an Acer lappie with Acer mobility 9700, and I'm typing via an ATI X550 (PCIX woo hoo) graphics card.
OK, they're proprietary, but they're free and they work! I'm sure you'll find them on their website somewhere if you look.
