I am going to introduce the Born Again Shell ( bash ) and a few useful
command line tools during the first half hour. If this is appreciated by
the membership it could be continued for the rest of the year. I have done
this more than once before.
I will have http and vnc servers, and a number of supporting files,
installed on my ThinkPad, so those interested might care to bring their
own Lappies or at least a USB Memory stick. ( Files too big for floppies )
See:- http://www.lpi.org/en/printer_friendly.html?uri=/obj_101.html
We'll be starting at Topic 103:

Zane Gilmore is going to giving us a through introduction to the SQL
data-base Query Language. This promises to be a particularly informative
talk because Zane is employed in the IT section of the Registry at the
Varsity. This means that he is something of an SQL expert because it is
his bread and butter. A couple of tutorial files will be available for
members to copy and study later.
Fixing Recalcitrant Linux Machines.
===================================
Problematic Computers attended to as needed.
( Please notify distribution and symptoms )
Tea and Instant Coffee Provided.
================================
( Please bring your own biscuits )
There will be plenty of time for chatter and social interaction.
$2.00 ( minimum ) donation to pay for Hall Hire.
================================================
I still have about third of a box of Ubuntu distribution CDs available
gratis. Sorry, but all the manufactured KUbuntu discs have found caring
homes, but I have organized a replacement KUbuntu .iso file which members
are free to copy. This particular distribution of KUbunbtu is somewhat
more recent than 'Breezy Badger' and has the latest KDE and KOffice.
Could a member please bring a machine with a CD burner in it so those folk
who want a disc can get a copy burnt? ( Please bring your blank CD )
