It goes through my mind that we might well have either permission or password problems. Is the 'matthew' user in the uucp or dailout group as needed by the distro? Also it would be a very good idea to install one of either minicom or uucp packages so we can talk to the modem directly. Matthew: Please could you install minicom before Tuesday. Please could we have a modem expert to volunteer to fix this on Tuesday?
