This seems to indicate that samba is indeed runnning, or you wouldn't
get any listing of sharenames on localhost.

Firewall?

If you have another linux box try 

nmap 192.168.1.1 

or whatever the address of the samba server is. I am sure there is a
windows equivalent of nmap, but I dunno what it is.
