Yes, if there's one thing I have learnt over the years it's that it is 
foolish to not use your distributions package management system, provided 
it works ( & they mostly do these days ). Doing so is an invitation to 
enter Hades via the 'Gates of Chaos'.

He appears to be sufficiently intelligent to be able to learn how to cut 
and paste from an e-mail to a command console and push the return key.
If he cannot do that he should not be 'allowed out after dark' just yet.

Looks as if I'm going to have to get Ubuntu on my other drive, and I've 
given all the Kubuntu disks away. :-( Every single one. 
I'm going to wait until the Dapper Drake is airborne though.
 
Could some real Debian / Ubuntu guru take over at this point please?
