They are pretty good at getting this right.

Indeed you can, thanks to the apt-get command from the Synaptics system. 
It's pretty good.

Never fear, that is only a remote possibility which happens only very 
rarely when something totally unplanned happens. From what I hear, very 
much less frequently than having to re-install that other system.
