Yup. First in the terminal window, you need to type ( with a capital D )...

cd Desktop
sudo alien -d XnView-static.i386.rpm
sudo dpkg -i xnview_1.70-2_i386.deb


And that should do it. In order, change to your Desktop folder, then convert 
xnview from rpm to deb format, then install it.

You're getting closer ( or is that "You're in a maze of twisty passages, all 
alike?"  (: )
