anyone tried this? It was brought to my attention on another forum (a torrent site where I do my bit of linux promotion on the forums, usually to deaf or even grumpy ears). Anyone one of the semi-doubters who found ubuntu hard to set up (?)[1] now swears by pclinuxos. Its a mandrivel fork, available here:
Having looked at a ubantu install disk The thought occurs the limited range of apps on 1 install cd and the need to troll the web for extras may be a great cause of confusion for newbies. Also the lack of kde. I dont want a distro war, but i'm generally happy with my mandriva installation and have sorted it to run the way I like.
My basic minimum install took about 15-20 mins if I remember correctly, I then copied all rpms to the hard drive from where I install them as needed.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/ Short wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCLinuxOS This may be useful for the Bernards of this world (no offence Bernard, everyone has to start somewhere :-) updates via synaptic/apt-rpm Any other users thoughts would be interesting. [1] the difficulty was a particular video card I think, shit happens.
