You must have a short memory Rik. Bernard could not do several things with his Ubuntu installation. From my memory, updates and package installation did not work (remember all the posts about repositories?) and he could not play his music to name two problems. I installed Mepis for him (12 minutes by the way) and straight away he could update, find and install new packages and play his music. He could also access his fat32 partitions with one click in KwikDisk but he wanted to have them mounted at boot (that is sorted out now.) Oh and he was cursing "Linux 'cos his kids could not play on-line BBC kids' games with Ubuntu - that also just worked with Mepis. His camera is detected by Digikam but needs some tweaking to get it working. I know that a "reinstall" is the Windows way but I also knew that Ubuntu has some limitations and that KDE is easier to learn for ex-Windows newbies. I do not think that Bernard going back to Ubuntu would be a forward step for him. I am sure better men than you or I will be able to make the correct decision on Thursday so I will butt out at this point. With all due respect, Robert
