Yes, it is possible to authenticate with a Win2k3 domain, there are a
few steps necessary on the Domain Controller to allow smb
communication to take place. (Plenty of material out there to guide
you through this - "Google")

Disable both Policies in:
Domain Controller Security Policy -> Security Settings -> Local
Policies -> Security Options:
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (if client agrees)
