For the specific job of being your secure external machine, I don't see
a significant benefit in choosing FreeBSD over a mature server Linux;
however I do see a benefit to OpenBSD in this role.

Good luck! Unfortunately it's looking like being a very long time before
I get an opportunity to get to Christchurch -- but, if I do, I'm sure
