If your household is even vaguely geeky then a dedicated firewall box is the
way to go.
Doesn't have to be very big at all, but it does have to be on 24/7

Subject: internet sharing in MEPIS

I could be out of my leauge here, but i'm trying to get my Mepis box to act
as
a gateway for the rest of the house to the net.

Eth0 is configured as the connection to the net using my cable modem fixed
IP . Eth1 i set up as 192.168.0.1 and cant find any tools to set up a DHCP
server, or to pass traffic through my machine between the internet and the
LAN.

Could someone give me a clue what i should be looking for, and/or how to
make
this work?
