And if you use SUSE, you use yast to configure your printers, which will set cups up for you. There's a "test printer" function too. As that presumably has been tried and the printing found to be still non-functional, more debugging is needed. My guess is that the problem has absolutely nothing to do with cups, which probably uses samba commands for data transport anyway. Use the samba commands (primarily smbclient) to debug the Linux/Microsoft connection, if this doesn't work, you're wasting your time on everything else.
