in particular

Had the same problem with my Nikon Coolpix 2200. Here is a workaround.
In the KDE Control Center > Desktop > Behavior > Device Icons, you need to
enable "Unmounted Removable Media" and "Mounted Removable Media".
After that, connect your camera and turn it on. A "Removable Media Icon"
should appear on your desktop. Rightclick that and leftclick "Properties".
This will give you your mount point. Location should say "/media" and sda1
or sda2 depending apon how many USB devices you have connected.
Next, start Digicam > Camera > Add Camera > Add > "EDIT" Mounted Camera.
This will add the camera named "Directory Browse". "END OF EDIT" In the
"Camera Mount Path" fill in the info. Should look like "/media/sda1" or
"/media/sda2". After that, you should be good to go.
If you connect and reconnect USB devices the sda address can change for the
camera, so you need to keep track of that.
Udev needs some work!

Both the above are enabled already, and of course there is no removable
media icon on the desktop?
