OK quick guide to gtkam:

run gtkam, you get a window with various menus including "Camera"

Choose Camera menu and "Add Camera"

In the resulting dialog choose "detect" and it should ID your camera.

If it does click "OK"

Now in the left panel of gtkam your camera should be listed. Click the
little arrow thing to display a list of folders on the camera and then
drill your way down to the folder your pics are stored in. You should
now get thumbnails on the right hand panel.

You can transfer the pics to the computer file system (File menu), view
the EXIF data (try right clicking a thumbnail).

Works much better than last time I tried it, but that could be the
newer camera too.
