Following up from my message regarding my regularly dropped connection: - The WAN connection was being dropped by my router every 6 to 8 hours. - Internal LAN connections via the router (4 ports) were unaffected - Logging in to the router was unaffected - The WAN connection could be reinstated by viewing the status page in the router
I reset the router and the problem did not go away. On SMC's advice, I cloned the MAC address from a PC for the WAN side of the router. The problem persisted, so I went further and restored the factory settings, cloned the PC MAC address and re-entered all the configuration settings. Amazingly, the problem went away. Upon observing this some choice comments came to mind that I intended to pass on to TelstraClear (suspecting MAC-level filtering). However... I decided to restore the old MAC address to see what happened. I am happy to say that it's been okay for over 24hrs now, with its original MAC address. Clearly the router was in a confused state, but what triggered it on Tuesday 9th I don't know. I will wait for a couple more days before confirming success with SMC, and I'll see if my friend with the same problem on ADSL is still having trouble. Thanks, Andy
