I guess it does depend on distribution, package management, along with
the inevitable custom tweaks of the odd config file.  LAMP is pretty
well supported on most dists., mine has wordpress also [as a package]
although I have used tarball on some sites due to their particular
setups (vps's, etc)

Steve, if you want there are a _lot_ of places around that will put up
your blog and manage all the hosting for you, even wordpress.  I would
say wordpress is the easiest to install at home from the few I've tried,
but in some circumstances it is often easier to go for free hosted,
especially when you count the cost of ongoing maintenance at your hourly
rate...
