Um, bleeding edge for a working, client-facing machine? And you said you
do this for a living?

The only reason I'm contemplating moving away from Solaris (stable with
good critical patch management) is to have a go at porting AppArmor
(excellent wrapper for SELinux if you've never looked at it - SELinux is
too much hard work or me to play with directly in it's current stage) to
a non-SuSE machine and I know I'll have an easier time of this with a
linux kernel base.

Given the tools that you run are all client facing and prime targets,
I'd build everything from scratch, as bleeding edge as I dare.

Given that, it doesn't really matter what distro you're using, so, of
course, debian's the only option (:

Yes, I do practice what I preach... and for a living, too!

kernel 2.6.16.18 ( not brave enough for 2.6.17! )
sendmail 8.13.7
apache 2.0.58
bind 9.3.2
( don't use squid! ).
