See what you mean performance wise... it's taking an age to install

I've downloaded vmware player and am just installing that... it's quite
a bit bigger.

I got qemu installed.
I couldn't figure out how to make it use the ubuntu cd so I booted a
machine into ubuntu and turned the cd into an iso. I then copied the
iso to my laptop and I'm in the process of running the install within
the qemu system now.
The issue with the live CD is that I want to create an enviornment that
can be saved and restored.
If this works as expected it will be ideal for running my training course.

OK, then. What research have you done into the relative performance of the
available virtualization systems.
I just told you which one is a) the simplest to install on a M$ platform, and
b) which perofrms the best. I may not have mentioned that in the post, but I
stated an opinion because I've researched it within the last 6 months.
