Because they all come from the same database :-) The 'tz' database (aka the Olsen time zones) can be found here ;- http://www.twinsun.com/tz/tz-link.htm However there's no explicit explanation for the substitution of Auckland for Wellington; the rule of thumb seems to be that identifying names are chosen by size of population, not governmental significance. -jim
