That one cost us (me and the kids) a lot of research and cat kicking!! No variation of apci settings at command-line startup worked. Our solution was to disabled 'USB mouse support' in the BIOS settings - press delete after the startup beep to get to the BIOS settings and scroll down on the 'Integrated Peripherals' page - YMMV. While I'm at it, I'll echo Robert and Andrew's advocacy of the Mepis distribution. Warren Woodward and his team have chosen a nice blend of KDE and Gnome based programmes and strung them together with a slick installation package. Of course you have to go off and install a British dictionary! Cheers... Rex
