I have not read all of that article, but the short answer is: 1. the serial port on the back of NZ Sky boxes cannot be used for controlling them
2. you can use an IR Blaster (ie transmitter) pointed at your sky box to control it. 3. many people have made this work along with mythtv both in nz and in othetr countries (with different STB's) 4. YMMV with different sky boxes - there are a few variants. 5. "Sky box" in NZ is not the same physical box as "Sky Box" in other parts of the world.
