Would it maybe looking for the Password at that point in time and not
seeing it.......the password was entered during the set up procedure......

My dialup behaves that way too since late last year (on Ubuntu but not
XP), after some Telecom modem realignment apparently - as in, on 0867
dialin _their_ modems capture your call and patch it into the trunk now,
rather than your ISPs. The Mac-related script fixes it, they say; or, as
I have done, revert to the 03******* dialin. Can you?
