I believe that terminal services is an add-on that you need to licence separately.
You'd also require win2000 server, not workstation. You'd use rdesktop on a nix box to access a terminal server. Other (more on-topic) options - install vmware player and find a windows guest machine somewhere - install vmware server beta and make your own - install wine - install qemu - You can VNC or rdesktop to the console of a windows box for remote maintenance, but that locks the screen against the local user - might be okay. - Convert the database to openoffice? Probably not a good solution What other options does Mark have? -----Original Message----- From: Mark Carey [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, 19 August 2006 7:44 p.m. To: [email protected] Subject: OT windows terminal services WAS Re: naming computers On 8/19/06, Roger Searle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Mark Carey wrote: > > My question for the list can I install terminal services onto a > > windows 2000 workstation, if so how .... have googled and dont > > believe its possible. > > > > Cheers, > > > > > ummm.... this is a linux user group list. to the best of my knowledge > windows isn't linux . . . which will explain why you may not get any > replies. Well put! To clarify I am trying to work in Microsoft Access from Dapper and the terminal services feature is useful in XP. Unfortunately I need to work in office 2000 which is installed on a 2000 box, hence my question. I know about the plethora of VNC options out there, but I also know there is a terminal services edition for windows 2000 (I used it at UOC in the cosc labs and from the mech eng labs to do visual studio development for Tania Mitrovick's database course), so I was wondering wether I can add this onto my windows 2000 install. Tenuous I know, but still related to Linux and UOC. And stranger things have been known to pop up on this list .... Anyway thanks for the clarification ... I wont get my hopes up. Mark
