What a waste.

where can i look to tell for sure?

uname -a
to give you the details of the running kernel

/etc/SuSE-release to tell you which system you have installed (X86-64
for 64bit).

ok that machine is definitely running a 32bit install.  that can go on my list to do...

i believe this is because the DVD i have is only 32bit, looking at the folders within I don't see anything that obviously points to it being both 32 and 64 bit - how can i tell with this?  would there be really obvious folder names including "64"?  or is there a clearer pointer?  the cover only says "10.1 i386".
