Thanks for all the information and suggestions. I wanted to finish off this thread by saying what I actually did.
So, I paid $38 to iServe for a .co.nz domain for a year. I then signed up for their free webhosting service, which, at the $0/yr level is basically a redirector. I set up forwarding from ***.co.nz to homepages.paradise.net.nz/***, which was easy to do. If you go to ***.co.nz you are taken to the redirected page, but the URL in the address bar on the browser (Firefox) remains as ***.co.nz, even when clicking on links within the site. I think this is a good feature. When you register for the free hosting you enter your name and email address. This (single) email address is used to forward all mail sent to any name on your new domain (anything)@***.co.nz. It is easy to change this single address, but I don't know what a message looks like when it has been redirected. I have sent one test message to the new domain- it did not bounce, but my friend has not yet told me if it arrived (or what it looks like). In all, it was trivial, and works as expected. Andrew
