No it is not but I vaguely recall that you can share Thunderbird mail between
Windows and Linux.
If this is so perhaps someone could help Alan set that up at the meeting too.

Yes it is pretty straight forward, I am happy to do that and hope to be
at the meeting. Will take less than 5 minutes to set up but needs the
shared fat32 partition set up first and entry in fstab made - presume
someone else will do this first.
I think that having the emails available for reading while booted to
mepis will make things significantly easier for you Alan. Replies could
be composed in mepis, and I believe (though have never had need to use
it) that the offline mode in thunderbird will simply allow them to be
"sent" to the "unsent mesages" folder and sent when booted back in
windows where "offline" can be changed back to online (if needed to be
don at all) and sent.
Of course the offline part will be redundant once the modem is
functioning, however this is still a good idea given I imagine you will
continue dual booting - in the short term anyway?
