Can you ping 127.0.0.1? That's on your PC. You MUST have tcp support to talk 
tcp to your ISP. You don't need any physical networking running.

I can't actually conceive a linux installation that doesn't support tcp, but 
maybe it's been done. Your log shows you connecting and logging on 
successfully, adding your PC to their network is the next step, which is 
failing.

It could also be a permissions problem - the quickest way to check that it to 
try and connect as root.
