Firefox can use a "white list" approach to cookies, meaning that you get
to choose which sites remember you. Configure Firefox as follows:
Tools, Options, Privacy, Cookies
Allow sites to set cookies
For the originating site only
Unless I have removed cookies set by the site
Keep cookies: Ask me every time
Take the following steps once, still under the Cookies tab:
Exceptions
Remove all sites
Clear cookies now
Having done this, you'll probably need to log back in to
some of your preferred web-sites. If you prefer, clear the
cookies manually, leaving the likes of your internet banking
site.
Firefox will now pop up a warning each time a new site tries to set a
cookie. Tick the box called:
Use my choice for all cookies from this site
From here on, each time the window pops up, you can choose to allow
(Alt-A) or deny (Alt-D) the site's ability to set cookies. You can also
select "Allow for session" (Alt-S), meaning that the site will
cheerfully set cookies, but Firefox will throw them away when you exit
the browser. If you ever change your mind about a web-site, go:
Tools, Options, Privacy, Cookies
Exceptions
Find the site that you want to change, and Remove Site. Next
time you visit the site, Firefox will ask again.
I feel so clean.
Douglas.
