We don't yet have net access at the Upper Riccarton library, so I
can't do a net install on Thursday.
Does anyone on list know anything about debian? How many of the
ISO's do I need? I see there are 14 currently.
I also have a Debian machine which I've trashed but I want to repair.
The version of the installer I've got doesn't seem to support a
repair. Any thoughts anyone?
Yes, RTFM

"Although a full set of binary packages requires several CDs, it is
unlikely you will need packages on the third CD and above."
You could also consider ubuntu as it supports a wide variety of packages
and tends to be more up to date.
What Nick said. Three main options:
a) Don't bother (no slight upon the distro): everything you want from
Debian is much more easily obtained with Ubuntu - especially a
supporting community.
b) Pick your workshop setting of choice, and book the box in for repair
help. It would create a most informative exercise for all to observe, as
a live talk-thru. Well worth trouble, if there's particular configs,
drivers or software that you wish to retain.
c) Await the installer's support - back in NZ cNovember.
