Thanks folks for the positive comments.

For years I have met the chair of the WEA at a mutual friend's pot luck
dinners. At each meeting I would talk about open source software and in
particular OpenOffice.org. Finally we got together and discussed what we
thought would be a suitable course for WEA (given that they run courses
in how to use proprietary software). Thus the seminar (repeated) to see
what interest there might be currently or that we could generate by
running the seminar. If anyone would like to be involved let me know.
