The latest version seems to be 1.2.3 (from www.cups.org) - the version in

freebsd is 1.2.2. Given that 1.2.3 was released on 30 August 2006 I

think you are being picky. Simply make sure the ports collection is up

to date, then cd /usr/ports/print/cups && make install clean

upgrading gcc on any distro or OS is a scary concept. I would be looking

for very specific instructions before trying that one! I do see that

they seem to plenty of versions.
