Hi. I'm using a small peice of software (http://rs200-decoder.sourceforge.net/) to transfer data from my Polar heart rate monitor watch to my Ubuntu laptop.
The watch transmits the data audibly and rs200-decode records it on /dev/dsp using the laptop internal microphone and saves the data. For some reason, every time I run rs200-decode it sets both the microphone recording level and the speaker outputs to 100% resulting in nasty (and painfull) feedback. Can someone tell me how to set default volume and recording levels in Ubuntu? I've tried using alsamixer and that hasn't worked. Otherwise, any other suggestions on what might be causing the jump in volume settings and how to set it at a lower level? Thanks!
