There's no fundamental difference between shares offered by samba and shares 
offered by any M$ box. That was the whole point of the original project - to 
offer reliable shares in a microsoft environment. They only got found out 
because they succeeded so much better then Bill. From one side you set access 
rights and publish the shares, and from the other, you connect. 

Security could cause a headache, but you can just about disable all of that 
just to get started.

swat is a help on the linux side. install via your favourite package manager, 
then point your browser at http://localhost:901
