That is how I interpret it too. Also, realistically, they appreciate that they can't control what individuals and small groups of people do in the privacy of their own homes. It would seem to me that this is the start of the separation of the IT/CS world into two distinct camps - the USA and the rest of the world. Microsoft have realised that if they don't start interoperating better, the rest of the world will simply cut them off sooner rather than later, whereas if they start playing nicer they can delay the inevitable for a while. On the other hand the Novell-Microsoft agreement also gives Linux a real boost in credibility. -- CS
