There were 8 .pack files which I unpacked and OO2 now works as it should.
In all the hours I spent browsing, this problem was never mentioned,
perhaps it could go in the wiki

it does require it and it should be
at /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_09/jre/lib/rt.jar. see if there is one of those
"packed" files i was talking about in my other post there instead and if
so, unpack it.
