As it happens, I've now just about completed what I want to do in python.
I'll be posting the results on a web site for those who are interested.
It's a script to grab ccc rates data for my local care. I've just
joined the local res ass so I'm just collecting a bit of data about the
place.

Here is how I would do it;
echo '<span id="lblValuationNumber">22115 36400 B</span></td>' |
cut -d '<' -f 2 | cut -d '>' -f 1
Note, the command is one line. I have split it to escape the line wrap
gremlins.
I am sure some one will point out that there are better ways to do this in
gawk perl python etc...
