yes, 256/8=32

Which is exactly consistent with what i see - I used to max out at about 16kB/s 
on 128 adsl and now get up to 32kB/s on 256.

I didn't think the difference between 30 and 32 was worth mentioning for the 
purposes of the explanation. Especially as any application that reports a speed 
necessarily does so as an average over period of time - I have seen apps report 
way over the theoretical maximum available. Its quitel likely correctly 
counting the throughput, but miscalculating time.
