However the 2.0beta release notes say to run the script "firefox" in the
first directory level of the tarball. Such a script exists in the latest
download, i'd run that

I did do that first. I've also updated the sources.list (I think) and
then rechecked if firefox 2 existed.
Then I went to the mandriva site it self but couldn't make much sense
out of that.
