.Net and C# do not necessarily mean Microsoft. There is a free
implementation of C# called Mono. The only problem is that Microsoft
might have patents forbidding that. IANAL For that reason most
distributions do not include Mono and any packages depending on it
(beagle for example). SUSE and SUSE-users do not need to fear Microsofts
patents for some time. That is probably the reason why Novell has chosen
to include Mono. I don't know what happens when their agreement
finishes, but it might get interesting.
